night 18: tallahassee, fl : the diYno house
i woke up as we were pulling into town. it was a very sunny day but was still super cold. i was definitely excited to play but i was definitely anxious to get on the road and head back home. i love tour just as much as the next guy but i also get pretty homesick…i’m a wuss i know.
we get to the house and immediately meet at least 5 great people. patrick (who set up the show for us) takes us to a super cheap coffee house called “all saints” as well as their local info shop where i bought “no jacket required” by phil collins on vinyl for only a buck. i don’t care what anyone says, “don’t lose my number” and “home” are two of the greatest pop songs of all time.
the show started with “bastards out of carolina” which was a cool full band with great lyrics. they had just added a drummer and were a bit rusty but the heart was definitely there and i really enjoyed it.
then i played…i don’t know if it’s playing night after night or possibly that i’m just exhausted but i’m having a really hard time concentrating when i’m playing my set. it’s not that i’m screwing up chords or forgetting lyrics…at least that i know of…it’s just this weird auto pilot that i snap into when i start playing. i don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing just something i’ve never really experienced before. we’ll see if a couple of days off will get me out of it.
t&t played great as always. we said our goodbye’s for about an hour and then hit the road at about midnight (or, by the time i’d purchased 3 different caffenated beverages and the worst gas station sub of all time, about 1 am.) the epic drive from tallahassee, fl to johnstown, pa has begun…
