day 8  zakks coffee shop  murfreesboro, nc

…i wake up at 6am in the back seat of the van and i’m pretty sure we’re all about to freeze to death.  apparently we’re all sleeping at a rest area somewhere in west virginia.  in my just-woke-up-and-don’t-know-what’s-going-on panic i freak out about this slightly but we get the van turned on and warm up then fall back asleep.  then around 8 we realize we’ve had the car on for 2 hours and the heat at full blast the whole time…this time i wake up and freak out that i’m burning alive…it was a weird morning for sure.

took us a good 7 and a half hours to make it to murfreesboro, nc and at this point i’m really done being in a car.  the last two hours of the drive was great though…all the roads had no lines and were just taking us further and further into the country.  we took this opportunity to blast some lucero and soak in some scenery.

we get to the venue around 4 (and it’s closed….again) so we walk around for a bit and visit a few cool goodwill type stores on the main strip.  also ate some great southern food pictured above: chicken pie, friend okra, mac and cheese, and homemade hush puppies.

the rest of the night was less than great.  we stood out side in the cold for a good 3 hours.  without bitching too much, it really sucks when a venue doesn’t treat you with the same respect that you treat them.  there’s really nothing more depressing.  at the end of the day the people who ran this thing were descent people…i won’t be playing there again though.

aside from almost running out of gas on the way to raleigh, the rest of this night was pretty much uneventful. the days are definitely starting to take their toll on my spirit so i can’t wait to gets to my friends scotts place to recharge and get happy again.
