day five: mojo 13 wilmington, DE
at first glance this isn’t the place for most. the “enter at your own risk” sign doesn’t help with that feeling at all. but, like most things i expect to go wrong, this show ended up going great.
1. our good buddy paul blest played the open mic that was also going on at this venue tonight….and he killed it.
2. every other person on that open mic was great (save maybe two) and that’s a super rare stat for an open mic night to have.
3. trunks and tales played the best show i’ve ever seen them play. knowing it was my turn to play second tonight i was legitimately concerned i was going to blow it and not bring the heart as well as they did.
4. i learned an important lesson tonight: as much as i preach about not judging places/people by their covers i realize that i definitely do it all the time. this is a perfect example of how big of an idiot and hypocrite i can be. thank you to mojo 13 for reminding me why i’m doing this. as far as steriotypes go, i got an amazing response from a crowd that i probably shouldn’t have, and that really taught me something.
5. tonight i actually though for a second that what i’m doing might actually be working and touching people. i’ve never played 5 shows in a row on a tour without being let down. here’s crossing my fingers that i make it to show numer six. next stop DC.
